Transcoding to MP3 Not Working in 3.0.16

    Transcoding to MP3 seems to be broken in 3.0.16. It was working in 3.0.9. Please find the attached zip logfiles.

    Here's the CLI command I ran on both versions:

    /usr/bin/vlc --log-verbose=3 --file-logging --logmode=text --logfile=vlc-debug.log -I dummy --preferred-resolution 240 --play-and-exit --no-loop --no-repeat --no-video --sout-audio --ttl=1 --prefetch-buffer-size=1048576 --prefetch-read-size=1048576 --prefetch-seek-threshold=1000000 https://youtu.be/3jFqhjaGh30 --sout='#transcode{vcodec=none,acodec=mp3,ab=64,channels=1,samplerate=44100}:std{access=file,mux=mp3,dst='jmstest.mp3'}'

    3.0.9 generates a valid mp3 file, 3.0.16 does not.

        Works for me using VLC on debian stable: VLC media player 3.0.16 Vetinari (revision 3.0.13-8-g41878ff4f2)

        KO with my own vlc-3.0 build: VLC media player 3.0.17.3 Vetinari (revision 3.0.17.3-192-g0273e55ff1)

        Both version can play the youtube stream, but the last one can't open it for sout streaming,

        Ubuntu 22.04 ships with the same version as Debian, but it does not work (has not worked since 21.10). 20.04 has VLC 3.0.9.

        @jbk Hi. I'm experiencing the same issue.

        I've run the following command:

        $ cvlc -vvv pulse://alsa_output.pci-0000_07_00.3.iec958-stereo.monitor --no-sout-video --sout '#transcode{acodec=mp3,ab=128,channels=2}:std{access=http,dst=0.0.0.0:8888/pc.mp3}'

      This looks like #25851 (closed) which is fixed in VLC >3.0.17.

      Would you mind trying with vlc 3.0.17.4 ? The transcoding issue with avcodec should be fixed.

      Ah, incompatibility with ffmpeg-4.4 until vlc-3.0.17. Ubuntu 20.04 shipped ffmpeg-4.2 with vlc-3.0.16 which worked fine. Then since 21.10, they updated ffmpeg-4.4 but kept vlc-3.0.16. Not sure when I'll get a chance to test, but if y'all are confident this has been fixed, I'll close out this issue. Thanks for following up!
