VLC hangs on subtitles synchronisation with large delays

On using subtitles synchronisation in VLC, it works well if the delay is around -15.0s but on setting a value less than -20.0s, the app shows a significant delay in processing and sometimes stops working.

That is a problem all the time, with big delays.
