I have an issue with some movies which I tried to watch with VLC (2.2.6) on Windows 7 64bit (Fully patched, Drivers are up to date from the Vendor Website). The issue is that those movies have a grey skin. However when I watch the same video on the same TFT screen with MPV (https://mpv.io/installation/) then the colors are ok.
Already tried:
reinstall VLC
Reinstall Windows
Update driver
use another PC and/or TFT
But that didn´t help so I assume the issue is with the VLC player
Should have mentioned that I already did some research here and also found the nVidia issue. However my GPU is build into the CPU (for example into the i7-4600U) so the nVidia workaround (https://wiki.videolan.org/VSG:Video:Color_washed_out/) do not apply to my environment.
I also can reproduce the issue on a MAC mini (with VLC 2.2.8 running on macOS High Sierra) and I get the same grey colors here.
Update: In the screenshots you can see that MPV shows the colors correctly, only VLC not. If the issue would be related to the nVidia control pannel settings, I would assume that the colors should be also wrong in MPV AND VLC and not only in one software. But regardless of that, no nVidia GPU is used...
Did the movie example shows the correct colors on your side Jean? I tried 5 PCs so far which I have (in my family) and they all show the same VLC issue, so I assume its nothing related to my 3 test Systems.
You mean in Settings -> All -> Video -> Output modules -> OpenGL Video Output? If that's the place to check, yes I already tried that on the affected Windows Laptop and as well on the affected MAC mini. The output didn´t change and is very grey and no real bright colors (the first movie, the one with the sun at the end still looks like there is fog all over as seen in the attached example pictures). I also tried two different TFT from HP on the Laptop (with the HP driver / color set). But the output is also not changing. I also tried a different TFT on the MAC as well, however there is also no change.
Is the movie showing the colors correctly on your side, or did you see as well and difference between MPV and VLC (for example at 0:20 in the first movie with the sun and the slogan). I´m very sure that you would be able to reproduce it as it looks like I can do that on nearly any PC or MAC...
Hm, but i can reproduce the issue as well with VLC 3.0.0-rc7 (nightly), shouldn´t that then be already fixed in the RC7 (See ticket attachments for an VLC 3.0.0-rc7 example screenshot )?
The screenshots are from Windows (Windows 7 fully patched as mentioned). But I can test it again with a more recent nighlty. Just give me a note which one I should test.
