VLC 4: Stopping playback does not work reliably

Sometimes when stopping playback in VLC 4, it does not seem to properly return to the main interface list, instead shows a full player with coverart instead of the video and the seekbar in some indefinite loading state. Further presses to stop in that state have no effect and only the back button actually switches back to the list view.
