VLC 3.4.1 on iPadOS 15.7 playing to TV via USB-C cable issues
Two issues noticed:
- The "This video is playing on the TV" symbol/message is overlaid on top of the video, on both the iPad and the external display:
- Old feature of being able to turn off the iPad display by locking the device, while the video continues to play on the TV, doesn't work. Locking the iPad also blanks out the external display, BUT the audio keeps playing there.
Old versions (pre 3.4.0), you could lock the iPad to turn off the iPad display to save battery, while the video continues playing on the TV.
- Tested on both portable monitor and Nreal Air AR glasses, same behavior.
EDIT:
Third issue noticed, seems that VLC does not detect the resolution of the external display and just mirrors the iPad.
I tried cycling thru aspect ratios (default, fill, 4:3, 16:9, 16:10), but it would always have a huge black border around the video and couldn't fill the TV.
Cycling thru aspect ratios in the past (pre-3.4.0), it was possible to get a full fill on the external TV.
